Happy Memorial Day!
Memorial Day is often associated with vacations, lake trips, and family barbecues, but it is important that you take a moment to recognize the true reason behind the day off from work. Memorial Day, formerly known as Decoration Day, is a national holiday dedicated to “decorating” or remembering the sacrifices of our fallen soldiers. Memorial Day is not to be confused with Veterans Day, which recognizes all military personnel.
Celebrating Memorial Day In A Unique Way:
- If your day is jam packed with events and people to see, you can participate in the National Moment of Remembrance for Memorial Day. On Memorial Day each year, 3:00 p.m. local time is the National Moment of Remembrance, which calls for a moment of silence to remember the lives lost and all of the sacrifices of our fallen men and women.
- Chances are you can participate in a local Memorial Day parade that your community is hosting. These parades often include Veterans of both past and current wars, and is a great way to celebrate Memorial Day.
- Take a moment to remember the lives lost by visiting a cemetery and leaving a single rose or American flag on each grave. You can let the little ones participate by asking them to write a little note to all that sacrificed everything for our nation.
- Visiting a historic landmark is also a great way to celebrate Memorial Day. This will not only provide you and your family with a great educational opportunity, but it will also offer a chance for some quality time together.
